Experience & background

David earned his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan before articling with Phelan O’Brien & Rutherford in Toronto.

‍

He was admitted to practise in Ontario and later joined the Law Societies of Alberta and British Columbia.

‍

Early in his career, David practised criminal law and conducted approximately 600 trials involving charges ranging from assault and robbery to murder.

‍

He has appeared at every level of court in Alberta and British Columbia, from Provincial Court to the Court of Appeal.

Leadership & legacy

David built Yanko & Company into one of Calgary’s largest personal injury practices, supported by a team of approximately 50 employees.

‍

Approximately 40 students have articled under him. Several later became successful lawyers and continue to practise personal injury law with the firm.

Recognition

David Yanko was recognized for his contributions to the legal community and the practice of law in Alberta by being appointed as King’s Counsel.
